Tuzlu Kahve
Tarot

Every tarot card is a number. Almost nobody reads them that way.

The major arcana are numbered 0 to 21 and the minors run Ace to King. Those numbers are not decoration — they reduce exactly like a life path does, and they land on the same meanings. Here the card and its number are read together.

All four karmic debt numbers are major arcana cards

Numerology marks 13, 14, 16 and 19 as karmic debt — totals that carry an unpaid lesson through the reduction. Every one of them is also a card, and the cards are exactly the four the deck is most famous for being uncomfortable about.

19The Sun19 → 10 → 1

Coincidence or design depending on what you think tarot is, but either way it is checkable, which is more than most claims in this field manage. Note also that Justice is XI and The Fool — numbered 0 — is the twenty-second card: the two master numbers, 11 and 22, sitting at the hinge points of the deck.

About this deck

All 78 cards, Rider–Waite–Smith numbering — Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Marseille tradition swaps those two, and if you learned it that way the card texts here will read one place off for that pair.

Court cards are numbered so they can be reduced like everything else: Page 11, Knight 12, Queen 13, King 14. That is a numerological convention rather than a number printed on the card, and it is why a Queen can show a karmic debt of 13. If you only want cards that carry their number on the face, read the major arcana and the pips.

The draw is deterministic. A shuffle you can re-roll until you like the answer is not a reading, it is a slot machine — so the cards come from your personal day number and the date instead. Two people get different spreads today; you get a different one tomorrow.

Tuzlu kahve — salty coffee. In the Turkish marriage proposal the bride serves the groom coffee with salt in it: a test handed over as hospitality, to see how he takes something unwelcome. The grounds left in that cup are then read. Both halves of this site are in that one small ritual.
